The ultrasound image allows the clinician to view and evaluate any violated structures as well wound etiology and deep structure pathology. The medical specialist can choose to perform area, length or circumference measurements to evaluate the dimensions of the wound, the circumference yielding a better determination of the wound's extent in situations where the wound has an irregular geometry. This information is used by the medical specialist to effectively evaluate the baseline of the wound severity and the efficacy of a particular treatment. The proposed method uses a commercially available non-adhesive couplant sheet, such as Civco Hydroscan, to cover a wound filled with a sterile coupling gel that is compatible with wound physiology. A linear or convex array ultrasound transducer, protected by a sterile probe cover, is scanned over the covered wound to image the extent of the wound. WoundView™ is offered with the Esaote products as an "added value", meaning a software package which produces a three page report is integrated. You will quickly see the benefit and ease of use of utilizing the WoundView™ program as this will yield more specific evaluation than conventional procedures. WoundView™ is a registered trademark |
